Dampers

A damper is the metal plate, which you open when using the fireplace and close when the fireplace is not in use. Top closing dampers are excellent for situations where the existing fireplace damper is absent or broken. Dampers seal fireplace flue to reduce heat loss up the chimney. Dampers may provide $100 or more in fuel savings per year. Keeps out snow, rain, animals, and debris. The lid is spring-loaded and defaults to open position. Operated by a stainless steel cable which extends down the inside of the chimney flue and is attached to a hook mounted in the front of the fireplace. Top Closing dampers provide the following:

Keep 100% of Water Out of Your Chimney

Rain is prohibited from entering the chimney which can save you money on expensive repairs.

Stop Animals

Top-Closing dampers will not allow birds, squirrels, rodents or even insects to enter the chimney and nest.

Prevent Downdraft

Top closing dampers prevent down drafts and cold air from entering the chimney system because they seal off the chimney system at the top instead of just above the firebox. Keeping cold air out of the flue helps reduce the cold air that is radiated into the home through the chimney.

Reduce Odor Problems

Water entering the chimney system mixes with ash and soot which causing a pungent odor because they seal off the chimney system at the top instead of just above the firebox. Keeping cold air out of the chimney.

Arrest Sparks

The 18 gauge built-in screen reduces the amount of sparks and large ash that is normally blown into the air and onto rooftops. MCP carries a very large selection of styles and sizes of protective chimney covers also referred to as rain caps. Chimney covers prevent entry of water, leaves, animals, birds and other debris into your fireplace or furnace chimney. Copper, stainless steel, galvanized steel, round, square, and rectangle are a few of the choices available.
